International Women’s Day — Inspiring Change!

Today, March 8, is widely recognized as International Women’s Day. It’s telling that we mark such a day.  (Can you imagine International Men’s Day?)    It’s clearly worth celebrating how far women’s rights have come.  One could imagine a time when we can drop the day, since Women’s Rights Are Human Rights, as my blog post about that tireless and courageous advocate, Hillary Clinton, has stated.  And another woman, Gloria Steinem says, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” In case you had any doubt about the differences that respecting and educating women make in the world, in Life Is a Splendid Torch, you can learn about this.   Dramatic social changes that occur in community and economic development, environmental sustainability, quality of governance, family planning…to name a few.  Inspiring indeed! Apropos Inspiring:  The YWCA, a vital and dedicated organization working effectively for women, children, single mothers, states about today:  “While we have come along way over the past century, there is still much that needs to be done to achieve true equality between women and men.  And so, it is fitting that this year’s International Women’s Day is Inspiring Change.”
