The Magic of Transformation in Childhood
Transformation is a magical word for me — full of aliveness, mystery, potential, and promise. As a kid I loved finding a cocoon or chrysalis…the concrete indication of a miraculous transformation taking place. We would sometimes take the chrysalis home, guard it carefully and celebrate the memorable moment when the butterfly emerged months later.
Not all transformation is lovely to behold, and some of it most certainly involves struggle.
The Scarab Symbol and Transformation in Egypt
On my trip to Egypt, transformation was a recurring theme. The Scarab was one symbol, the manifestation of something arising out of nothing, a glorious creation emerging out of a pile of dung.
Turning Negative Emotions into Gold
Another dimension was the potential for transforming negative emotions. Making gold out of dross. How can we use our anger, hate, greed, and facilitate the transformation into courage, strength, maybe even wisdom?
